Official Rules

Official Rules

A Thousand Joys (ATJ) specializes in working directly with high-risk children and families and with the organizations that serve them. We deliver breakthrough methods that help individuals and organizations thrive. Our innovative, comprehensive programs focus on trauma-related stress management, emotional regulation and healing. To support these programs, we occasionally operate promotions, such as a sweepstakes. There are lots of laws in place to protect our donors and ensure that everything is fair. These official rules have all the information you need to know before entering the “William Levy” sweepstakes advertised on our website.

A few things to note:

  • You can always enter the campaign for free (although we hope you’ll consider making a donation—it is, after all, a great cause).
  • Certain parts of these rules are required by different laws. To make sure you notice them, we use BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS for those sections.

WHEN YOU MAKE A DONATION, WE GIVE YOU ENTRIES INTO THE DRAWING AS A “THANK YOU.” CAMPAIGNS MAY ALSO INCLUDE CAMPAIGN PERKS THAT ARE GUARANTEED, IN ADDITION TO PRIZES THAT ARE REWARDED BY A RANDOM DRAWING. NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT NECESSARY TO ENTER ANY SWEEPSTAKES.

A THOUSAND JOYS IS A 26 U.S.C.§ 501(C)(3) NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS RECOGNIZED BY THE I.R.S.

VOID WHERE OTHERWISE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY LAW. ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS APPLY.

HOW IT WORKS.
We (“A Thousand Joys, Inc.,” or just “ATJ”) put together fundraising campaigns to offer unique experiences (“Prizes”) that anybody can enter to win.

We may also offer certain guaranteed perks and incentives (“Perks”). Perks are not part of the sweepstakes—they’re based on donations. You don’t have to make a donation to a charity to enter a sweepstakes, but if you do, we give you entries as a thank you.

HOW TO ENTER A SWEEPSTAKES.
ATJ offers several different ways to enter a sweepstakes, and it’s really easy to do any of the three methods of entry.

To make a donation.
Visit athousandjoys.org/william-levy and click “Enter to Win”. For your entry to be valid you must enter by visiting the specific sweepstakes pages (athousandjoys.org/william-levy & athousandjoys.org/william-levy-enter) to enter. Any donations made outside of these pages will not be counted. As a thank you, you get a sweepstakes entry for every $10 you donate to A Thousand Joys. We calculate entries in full $10 increments, so if you donate more than that, we will not round up to the closest increment of $10. Each donation is a separate and unique entry, so donations made by the same person at different times will be treated separately and not aggregated for purposes of calculating “thank you” entries or top donors for the guaranteed winners.

To enter for free:

  • Go to the campaign page on athousandjoys.org and scroll down to the bottom. See the “Alternative Method of Entry” link at the bottom of these Official Rules. Click it, fill out and return the form before the deadline.
  • You can also send us a hand-written postcard or letter to A Thousand Joys, 1313 West 8th Street, Suite 212, Los Angeles, CA 90017-4441. Make sure that you hand print your complete name, street address (no P.O. Boxes), city, state/province, zip/postal code, daytime phone number, age, email address, the name of the campaign and the following statement: “I have read and agree to the ATJ Official Rules.”

ENTRY WEIGHTING.
Since there are two different kinds of entries (free entries and thank you entries), we use a weighting system to ensure they’re all treated equally. At the end of a campaign, we calculate the average amount of donations received, and then we make every free entry worth the same amount as thank you entries. For example, if the average donation for the campaign was $26, and we gave 1 thank you entry for every $10, that would add up to 2 thank you entries. So, we’d double all the free entries so that they equal 2 as well. Regardless, the maximum number of entries for any one person is restricted to 1,000,000 per person per campaign.

WHO CAN ENTER A CAMPAIGN?
Campaigns are open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. You must be at least 13 years old to enter. Winners under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Winner and guest must have valid passports or they will forfeit the prize. Must not be a resident of Belgium, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Malta, North Korea, Singapore, Sudan, Syria, and Thailand. In certain countries, local rules and laws may restrict or prohibit the award of certain prizes or impose additional restrictions on participation. Entry is subject to all local laws. See official rules for more details. Employees, Officers, and Directors of Sponsor or Charity, and members of their immediate families and households are not eligible to enter. Employees of ATJ and members of their immediate families are not eligible to enter. All campaigns are void where prohibited by law.

WHEN CAN I ENTER A CAMPAIGN?
The start and end date for each campaign is listed on the campaign page. Unless otherwise specified, we usually start campaigns at 12:00:01 A.M. Pacific Time (“PT”) and end at 11:59:59 P.M. PT on the day specified. We call this time period the “Campaign Window”.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I WON?
About five days after the Campaign Window ends, we’ll select a number of potential winners listed for that campaign. We call or email the first person on the list to let them know. They need to sign an affidavit of eligibility, liability and where legal, a publicity release and send it back to us within seven days of notification, as well as any other documents necessary. Once this is done we confirm them as the winner. If they don’t get back to us, don’t sign one of the required forms, are unable to claim a Prize, or pose a threat to the Prize Provider, we disqualify that person and proceed with the next randomly selected person on list.

Travel companions may also be required to sign a liability/publicity release prior to issuance of tickets.

WHAT ARE THE RESTRICTIONS OR CONDITIONS ON A PRIZE?
We describe each Prize at the campaign page and in any special campaign rules, including the approximate retail value for that Prize.

Some Prizes have extra restrictions or conditions. We post these in the specific rules for that campaign, too. For all travel Prizes, you have to travel on the dates specified by ATJ and all airfare is coach class and hotel accommodations are standard class, unless otherwise specified. Any meetings with celebrities are subject to security and background checks. All other expenses are your responsibility. Travel restrictions, conditions and limitations may apply. The Prize value may vary depending on point of departure, travel dates and fare/rate fluctuations. And because stuff happens, we can’t be responsible for any cancellations, delays, diversions or substitutions, or any act or omission of any third person with respect to the trip. Lost or stolen tickets, travel vouchers or certificates or similar items once they are in your possession, will not be replaced. If you or your guest are, in our opinion, obnoxious, threatening, abusive, or harassing we can terminate the trip or Prize, in whole or in part, and send you both home with no further compensation.

Your guest must be of legal age of majority in his/her jurisdiction of residence, or your child or legal ward (unless otherwise approved by us).

If you live within a one hundred (100) mile radius of the site where the Prize is to be performed, we may provide ground transportation instead.

Prizes can’t be transferred or substituted, except that we can substitute a Prize of equal or greater value.

It is your responsibility to pay all taxes on Prizes. We will give you a W9 form.

WINNER PROMOTION.
By accepting the Prize, you agree that we can use your name, address (city and state), photograph, voice and/or other likeness and Prize information to promote ATJ. This means we can include you in advertising and trade and promotional materials for ATJ, in any form of media (including media that’s not yet known), and that we can do so without any additional compensation. This only applies unless otherwise prohibited by law.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION.
We want to get to know you! So when you enter a sweepstakes, we’ll collect some information about you. You can always choose not to enter, but where’s the fun in that?

ADDITIONAL DISCLAIMERS.
We must also tell you the following:

  • ATJ reserves the right to cancel the sweepstakes in the event sufficient funds are not raised. No refunds of donations will be provided. William Levy may also cancel his participation, in which case no refunds will be provided.
  • ATJ is not responsible for illegible, lost, late, incomplete, misdirected, or undeliverable email; or for any computer, telephone, satellite, cable, network, electronic or internet hardware or software malfunctions, failures, connections, or availability, or garbled, corrupt or jumbled transmissions, service provider/internet/website/use net accessibility, availability, or traffic congestion, or any technical, typographical, or other error, or unauthorized human intervention, or the incorrect or inaccurate capture of registration information, or the failure to capture, or loss of, any such information.
  • By entering sweepstakes, you agree: (a) to be bound by these Official Rules and by all applicable laws and decisions of ATJ, which shall be binding and final; (b) to waive any rights to claim ambiguity with respect to these Official Rules; (c) to waive all of your rights to bring any claim, action, or proceeding against ATJ in connection with that sweepstakes; and (d) to forever and irrevocably agree to release, defend, indemnify, and hold harmless ATJ from any and all claims, lawsuits, judgments, causes of action, proceedings, demands, fines, penalties, liability costs and expenses (including, without limitation, reasonable outside attorneys’ fees) that may arise in connection with your participation in a sweepstakes (including any Prize).
  • In the event of a dispute regarding entries received from multiple users having the same email account, the authorized subscriber of the email account at the time of entry will be deemed to be the entrant and must comply with these rules. Authorized account subscriber is the natural person who is assigned the email address by the Internet Service Provider (ISP), online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses.

WINNER’S LIST.
Send a self-addressed stamped envelope to: A Thousand Joys, 1313 West 8th Street, Suite 212, Los Angeles, CA 90017-4441 requesting a winner’s list no later than 30 days after the end date of a Campaign Window, and we’ll send you a list of the winners.

VENUE AND CHOICE OF LAW.
You agree that any and all disputes and disagreements between us will be governed by laws of the State of California and you will bring any claims only in the Federal and State courts located in Los Angeles, California. You also agree that unless you are prohibited from law in doing so, you promise you will bring any and all disputes, claims and causes of action against ATJ individually, without resort to any form of class action. Finally, unless the law prohibits you from doing so, you agree to waive the right to claim any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages and participants further waive all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.

  1. The Services

The ATJ Site provides certain promotions on the Site (Promotions) for a chance to win experiences (“Prizes”) and receive rewards traditionally unavailable to the general public. Participants may enter Promotions by using ATJ’s Free Alternate Methods of Entry or making a Donation through to the featured Cause (each as defined below). No purchase, payment or other financial contribution is necessary to enter or win a Promotion, and any and all Promotions are void where prohibited by law. In addition, if you are registering for or participating in a Promotion, participation is subject to our Official Sweepstakes Rules and Regulations and any other rules and regulations applicable to such Promotion (collectively, Rules). If this ToU conflicts with or is inconsistent with any Rules, such Rules will govern and be given precedence.

ATJ reserves the right to add, change, modify, suspend or discontinue any portion of the Service, in its sole discretion, at any time. Your use of the Site and/or the Service, including the availability of new services through the Site, shall be subject to this ToU. In addition, ATJ may impose limits on any portion of the Service or restrict your access to portions of or the entire Site in its sole discretion without notice or liability.

  1. DONATIONS:

In addition to at least one free method of entry, each Promotion allows you to support featured non-profit and charitable causes (each a “Charity”) by making a monetary donation (each a “Donation”). Donations shall be made directly to ATJ. In the event that you need a duplicate or replacement receipt for tax purposes, you can contact info@athousandjoys.org. It is your responsibility to determine if any amount is tax deductible and, as with all tax related matters, you should consult your own tax advisor. Except in the event of fraud and a valid chargeback by a credit card issuer, all Donations are non-refundable.

  1. Refunds, returns, and exchanges

Your ATJ donation supports an awesome cause, and enters you to win a fantastic experience. It goes directly to support ATJ – as such, we do not provide refunds. If your donation is accompanied by a perk, please note that delivery time varies based on the item. Due to the exclusive nature of all campaign perks, we apologize for not being able to accommodate exchanges. ATJ reserves the right to cancel the sweepstakes in the event sufficient funds are not raised. No refunds of donations will be provided.
