Come join us to celebrate A Thousand Joys’ 10 Year Transformation! ATJ’s friends and family are celebrating the occasion by hosting their first gala event.

What’s more exciting and fun than a themed birthday party? Multiple themed dinner parties happening simultaneously throughout the city! Come join us as we celebrate ten years of serving children and families in the Los Angeles community.

After dinner, guests will come together for a birthday bash at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion from 9:00 pm to 11:30 pm. We will celebrate with live music performed by The Royals and will delight in delicious desserts. We will also have an exhilarating live and silent auction, celebrity honorees and a brief program about A Thousand Joys. The best part of the evening is that you will meet party-goers from all corners of the city, some in costume, others in fine attire.

SHOW ME THE MONET!

French Impressionist party – Laura Basset – Laurel Canyon
Step into this dinner party in the verdant setting of Laurel Canyon, where guests are attired as their favorite impressionist painter or subject from an impressionist painting, and…. Voila!… you will be transported to a magical bygone era! French cuisine typical of the region and era will be served at this Impressionist-inspired dinner party based on recipes from Monet’s table at his gardens in Giverny …with roast duck, other French country delectables, and wine pairings for each course. Get ready for a visit from “the green fairy” – An absinthe demonstration and tasting will lend a real air of authenticity to your French Impressionist experience!


LET YOUR INSIDE OUT!

Inside Out party – Dominic Middono & Erin Hamilton – Hollywood
It’s what’s on the inside that counts..right? So let your inside out and come costumed as your favorite emotion at this “InsideOut” themed party based on the Disney Pixar movie. Do you wear your heart on your sleeve? Are you a passionate artist? A crotchety Curmudgeon? Then this party is for you! Come as any of the emotions in the movie…or even better – make up your own! We want to see what YOU look like on the inside! Though we expect Joy will be predominant as you join us for pre-dinner cocktails poolside at a luxury high rise in Hollywood, and then appetizers and buffet dinner in a penthouse apartment with sweeping views of the city. And then it’s off to the Dorothy Chandler for the fabulous dessert reception!


CAN YOU DIG IT?!

Construction Party – Jennie Gaio – Atwater Village
Is there a party in the construction-zone or construction in the party-zone?? The answer is…BOTH! Throw on your DIY duds and strap on your tool belt, and get down and dirty with us at a construction-themed dinner at the host’s currently-under-remodel guest house. Can you Dig it?! At this worksite, it’s always break time for everyone except our jobsite chef who will be constructing your made-to-order lobster, fliet mignon and veggie tacos…with all the fixin’s. Leave your earth-mover at home , because you won’t be operating any heavy machinery after a couple of our frosty margaritas! In Atwater Village – it’s a short Uber ride downtown to the live entertainment and exciting auction items that await at the dessert reception afterwards at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. You’ll know the house by the porta-potty out front…but don’t worry – we won’t make you use it!


GALA AT THE GALLERY

Black & White Gallery Party – Andrea Cockrum & Russ Nash – Santa Monica
Classic Black and white attire is the sartorial cue for this lovely dinner at the William Turner Gallery at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, reminiscent of the great art patron Peggy Guggenheim’s famous “Black and White Ball.” Guests will be treated to a presentation by Gallery owner Bill Turner on the background of the artist currently displayed and his perspective on their art. A catered buffet dinner of assorted dishes will allow guests to mingle, take in the the exhibited works, and display their dichromatic finery!


OOH -LA -LA!

French Dinner at Kendalls Brasserie– Gerdi & Raul Alvarado & Jeff Valdez – Downtown L.A.
Parisian style accuterment is apropos for this French themed dining experience at Kendall’s Brasserie in Downtown L.A. – known for their upscale take on classic French dishes. Don your beret or whatever outfit means Parisan to you: Literary salon? Moulin Rouge? Mime? Chic current-day Parisian? And since Kendall’s is situated in the same complex as the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion…you will be just steps away from the anticipated dessert reception with amazing auction items and live entertainment. So…go ahead and sample that wine list – you won’t be driving!


FABULOUS ANDROGYNOUS

Fabulous Androgynous party – Rudy Icezalaya – Silverlake
Come suited-up in your most fabulous androgynous outfit to this fun and wild Silverlake dinner party inspired by Bowie, Prince and all the gender non-conformative icons of the era. “Que Sabroso!” describes not only the theme…but the delicious Cuban menu which will be offered: Puerco Asado with all the trimmings, a variety of other comidas Cubanos, and frosty Mojitos will spice up your evening! And it’s a quick Uber trip to the DCP afterwards for more fun at the dessert reception with live entertainment and fabulous auction prize

Wedding Garden Party – Florence Tone & Natalie Caricato
Give that Chartreuse Bridesmaid’s dress, bespangled “mother of the bride” frock or dusty tuxedo in the corner of your closet a night out at this festive faux nuptial in a beautiful mid-wilshire garden. A smorgasbord of culinary delights will be served while guests mingle in the gorgeous Southern California fall weather.


CALLING ALL SUPERHEROES!

Superhero Party – Derek Powell and JoAnne Jennings
Do you have what it takes to be a superhero? We think so! Superhero training begins at 7 pm at the Westside Tavern, so come suited-up as your favorite traditional hero or one of your own making! What secret power do you posess…parallel parking? Multi-tasking? Kid wrangling? The nefarious forces of the universwe will have no chance…because our team will be unstoppable!!


THE MASKED MASQUERADE

Masquerade Party – Christie and Robert Scarafia
Do we know you? Maybe….and maybe not! Clandestine costumery is the theme at this North Hollywood dinner where hosts will provide the guests with a mask to wear for the evening. Though we’re sure you’ll want to ruin the surprise and take it off to dig into the amazing gourmet BBQ fare! It’s tough to lick your fingers with a mask on!

imageOSCAR TORRES – Writer and producer of “Innocent Voices” (Voces Inocentes) a film that went out to win over 70 National and International Awards including Mexico’s official submission to the 77th Academy Awards and the Berlin Film Festival Best Picture Award. Writer/producer of “En Tus Manos” an anti-violence short-film that won the 2010 Beverly Hills Film Festival and the Spirit Quest Film Festival among many others. Some of his latest films are the worldwide release of “Bravetown” (2015-2016), starring Josh Duhamel, Laura Dern, Maria Bello and Lucas Till; “Pulling Strings” (Amor a Primera Visa) starring Mexican leading man Jaime Camil produced by Pantelion Films became one of the top three most successful Mexican film releases of 2013 in the U.S. and Mexico. In the same year Oscar was a Creative and Script Consultant on the runaway hit “Instructions Not Included” (No Se Aceptan Devoluciones) starring Eugenio Derbez, which became the most successful Spanish Speaking film of all time grossing over $44 Million in the U.S. alone. It also became the highest grossing Mexican film in Mexico’s history. To date, its worldwide cume exceeds the $100 Million mark. His production company “Mango Tree Films” is in development of several projects including “Te Adoro” (I Love You) to be shot in the magical town of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; “Madre de Dios” starring Cuban-born mega star William Levy; and last but not least the long awaited “Innocent Voices Part 2” (Voces Inocentes 2) which tells the story of Chava arriving in the United States.

Yet her music defies classification and crosses all boundaries. She has been fronting bands, among them the pop/dance group SNAP, and honing her vocal skills since her early teens. After seeing her onstage, Michael Jackson invited her to be the opening act for his Dangerous tour. Among her many hits are Colour of Love, I Can’t Get Enough and Rhythm is a Dancer.
